Sustainable, Recycled and British Made, 3 cosy homes for cold weather.

We love a box of birds, especially a sustainable, responsibly made one. Here’s our pick of the best of British.

Flatpack, made from two flat interlocking sheets of plywood and six matchsticks, Jack Smith‘s birdhouse forms a snug home. Modern design and a crafty influence. Easy assembly too.

imageThe Milk Carton nestbox by Designer + Maker Ben Cramp, at Jam is made with ply-offcuts and discarded washing machine parts and ply-off cuts from local industry in Cardigan, west Wales. Every piece of Jam-crafted wood tells it’s a story. This one says sharp, geometric, and time to hunt for twigs. £59.50

The simple, birch wood Dovetailed by Eternalwood has a tilting zinc roof raised with an oak batten. The base removes for cleaning in autumn. There’s also a square ultra-minimal Bunker box, designed specifically for (modernist) urban birds. £60
